Dare Mighty Things pink
11” x 14”
This print celebrates the 2021 landing of the NASA Mars Perseverance Rover. The landing sequence used scientific ingenuity throughout the daring 8-minute descent to the surface of Mars. The parachute deployed to slow the decent was encoded with the message: “Dare Mighty Things”. We found this phrase very moving and empowering, particularly at a time when we face so many immense challenges in our world.
The alphablox pattern spelling the word “DARE” was inspired by the encoded message revealed on the parachute. We printed the background with wood type blocks made right here at Wheelhouse Press, and added other details with antique wood and lead type. The print features the NASA Mars Rover logo and the Geo coordinates of the mars landing site created with lead type and ornaments.
